I’ve been on a log cabin kick lately. I thought I would share with you one variation. The curved log cabin. There is no actual sewing of any curves. The trick is that the strips are different sizes. For this version, the light strips are 1.5″ and the color strips are 2.5″. Sewn together it creates the illusion of a curve.

Here’s just a few variations using curve log cabin blocks. There are tons of options. You can go crazy with designs!

Let me show you how it’s done. You’ll need:

Dark fabrics

1 – 2 ½ x 2 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 3 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 5 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 6 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 8 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 9 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 11 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 12 ½
1 – 2 ½ x 14 ½

Light fabrics

1 – 1 ½ x 2 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 3 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 5 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 6 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 8 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 9 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 11 ½
1 – 1 ½ x 12 ½

Start by sewing the dark 2 ½” square to the light 1 ½ x 2 ½”. Press toward light.

Now we start working our way around in a traditional log house cabin method. Sew the 1 ½” x 3 ½” piece to the bottom.

A piece of paper with the same pattern on it. A piece of fabric is folded over on the table.

For the next two sides, we add the dark strips 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ and then 2 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.

Continue adding strips according to the below diagram:

A = Light Fabric

B = Dark Fabric

A square with the numbers 1 0 2 to 9 6 on it.
